1993-1994
In March of 1993, the CBB is organized by Bill Harvey of Buddy Rogers Music, with Anita Cocker Hunt and Drew Cremisio as co-directors. Later Anita becomes the director, as Drew shifts to a role of principal cornet and assistant director. The band’s first performance is at the Tri-County Mall. Other concerts were held at the Wyoming Village Green, Hamilton Airport, Kenwood Mall, Northern Kentucky University, Roselawn Lutheran Church and the Cincinnati Art Museum.

The band plays two concerts with the Cincinnati Pops featuring an Olympic theme. The CBB hosts the NABBA XX Championships in Sharonville at the Radisson Hotel and Princeton High School. The gala concert is given by the Brass Band of Battle Creek at the Tri-County Assembly of God. The CBB is invited to play at the Great American Brass Band Festival in Danville, KY, and also performs at the 7th Brass Band Festival in Ashland, KY. The band releases its first commercial CD, “Pressing Onward”. Other concerts include a benefit for Organ Donation with the Cincinnati Pops at Music Hall, Habitat for Humanity Benefit at the Church of the Saviour, a Salvation Army 9/11 Appreciation Concert with Sandi Patti at the Princeton Pike Church of God, Olympic Spirit concerts with the Cincinnati Pops at Music Hall, Fine Arts Showcase concert at College of Mt St Joseph, a joint concert with CCM Brass, a Seton High Concert, and community concerts in Terrace Park, Evendale, Blue Ash, Indian Hill, Sawyer Point and Urbana.

The band returns to competition and again wins the Honors section (by 0.2 points!) at NABBA XXI in Little Rock, Arkansas. The competition pieces were The Undaunted (Eric Ball), Images for Brass (Stephen Bulla) and Flying the Breeze (Philip Sparke). To commemorate the band’s 10th anniversary, a special concert is held with guest trumpet soloist Vince DiMartino, and guest conductor Dr. Ron Holz. The concert included the debut of the Cincinnati Honors Band directed by Greg Mills. The CBB also performed benefit concerts for the Cincinnati Symphony and Habitat for Humanity, and played with the CCM Brass Choir in a series of Cincinnati Pops concerts. The band also performed at Armstrong Chapel, Evendale, the 8th Brass Band Festival in Ashland, KY, and in Van Wert & St. Marys, Ohio. Dwight Wages steps down as president to pursue colder interests in Canada.

At NABBA XXII in Charleston, West Virginia, the band placed a close third in the Honors section, playing Brass Metamorphosis (James Curnow) and Journey into Freedom (Eric Ball). The band started out the season playing at Tall Stacks in October and then played holiday concerts at Adena HS and Sycamore HS with Stacy Baker, tuba. Just before NABBA, the band played a joint concert with the Honors band at Montgomery Baptist Church, played another Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel and finished their concert season at Raymond Walters College. In the summer, the band performed at the first All-American Community Band Festival in Blue Ash, and returned to Edgewood KY to play at President’s Park. Ron Lutterbie assumed the presidency of the band, with David Ciancio as vice-president, Bill Harvey as secretary and Jo Ann Harvey as treasurer.

At NABBA XXIII in St. Charles Illinois, the band again placed a close third in the Honors section, playing Coventry Variations (Bramwell Tovey) and Firestorm (Stephen Bulla), although the scores from two of the three judges had us winning. The band opened up the season with a joint holiday concert with the Loveland High School Choir, followed by concerts with the Wyoming High School Band and the Cincinnati Honors Brass Band. This last concert also featured David Vining, professor of trombone at CCM, blazing through Carnival of Venice. Ron Holz was a guest conductor for our presentation at the Ohio Music Educators Association conference. The band concluded their indoor concerts with a performance at CCM’s Brass Extravanganza and the annual Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel. The summer season included a joint concert with the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony, and solo acts at Union Township, New Richmond, Blue Ash, and Madison, Indiana. These concerts featured Bob Gray playing Concert Brilliante and Ron Lutterbie on Over the Rainbow.

At NABBA XXIV in Louisville Ky, the band placed second in the Honors section, playing Spectrum (Gilbert Vinter) and Music for a Festival (Philip Sparke), although the scores from two of the three judges had us in a virtual tie for first place. The band marked the passing of long-time librarian Jack Bunton. The band opened up the season with a joint holiday concert with the Kings High School Band, followed by concerts with the Commonwealth Brass Band at Southeast Indiana University and the Cincinnati Honors Brass Band. The band concluded their indoor concerts with the annual Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel. The summer season included a joint concert with the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony, and solo acts at Union Township, New Richmond, Evendale, Edgewood, Kentucky, and Madison, Indiana. These concerts featured Bob Gray playing Believe Me If All Those Endearing Charms, Ron Lutterbie on Over the Rainbowand David Haldeman on A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square. The band recorded another CD entitled Cincinnati Pride.

At NABBA XXV in Louisville KY, the band placed fourth in the Honors section, playing King of Elfand’s Daughter (Rodney Newton) and Connotations (Edward Gregson). The band opened up the season with concerts at Anderson Hills United Methodist Church and the Church of the Savior with special guest Michael Chertock. The summer season included concerts at Union Township, Armstrong Chapel, New Richmond, Nisbet Park, Madison IN, Blue Ash, Keehner Park and Heritage Baptist Church. Concerts included solos by Steve Bone, Jake Brandyberry and Dave Ciancio. The band also unleashed two CD’s, Cincinnati Pride and Best of NABBA.

2007-2008
At NABBA XXVI in Louisville KY, the band performed in the Honors section, playing Journey into Freedom (Eric Ball) and Rejoice, the Lord is King (Kenneth Downie). The Cincinnati Brass Band performed on opening night at the International Tuba Euphonium Convention. Conducted by Anita Cocker Hunt, Kevin Fraser and Robert Childs, the band accompanied world-famous soloists Velvet Brown, Sérgio Carolino, David Childs, Matthew van Emmerik, James Gourlay, and Katrina Marzella. Other concerts included fall events at Lakota Baptist Church and St. Monica Church, a President’s Day Spectacular featuring a Lincoln impersonator at the Church of the Savior, and summer concerts at Union Township, Armstrong Chapel, the Cincinnti Community Band Festival, Keehner Park, New Richmond, Evendale, Blue Ash Towne Square and a joint concert with the Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony.

Instead of competing at NABBA, the Band focused on concert programming, with major concerts at St Monica Church to benefit the Glenmary Home Missioners, a Night at the Movies program with vocalist Nancy James at the Church of the Savior, and a joint concert with the Ohio Valley British Brass Band at Princeton High School. The summer schedule started indoors with the annual Memorial Day concert at Armstrong Chapel, then moved outside with concerts at John Paul Park in Madison, IN, Bicentennial Park in Lebanon, Montgomery Park (with the Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony), Keehner Park in West Chester and Greenhills Green.

2009-2010
The Band again focused on concert programming instead of NABBA this season. Concerts included performances at St. Monica/St. George, Union Township, Armstrong Chapel, Keehner Park, and a Holiday concert with the Blua Ash Montgomery Symphony. The bands appearance in Madison Indiana was highlighted by being proclaimed the ‘Offical Brass Band’ of the City of Madison! The winter concert, conducted at Deer Park High School, was a high point in the season. With the theme being ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, the CBB hosted guest performance groups that included the McGing Irish Dancers, Bi0Okotoa African Drums, the Deer Park Show Choir, and the Bud Walters Dance Studio. The band played to a full house on a cold February night and the evening was a great success that was fun for all.

2014
The Cincinnati Brass Band hosted the Salvation Army New York Staff Band on May 17, 2014 at Crestview Presbyterian Church in West Chester, Ohio. Staff Band Bandmaster Ronald Waiksnoris and Cincinnati Brass Band Conductor Anita Cocker Hunt shared the stage in this historic performance.
2016
On March 13, 2016 the Cincinnati Brass Band traveled to Louisville (New Albany, Indiana) to perform with the Commonwealth Brass Band in a joint concert.
2022
The Cincinnati Brass Band returned to NABBA after a 3-year absence due to COVID-19. Under the direction of our conductor, Dr. Ben Chamberlain, the band had its best finish in 16 years. We placed 2nd in the Second Section, performing Hope (test piece), Amazing Grace, and Shine as the Light. In the summer of 2022, the band played a variety of show and jazz tunes and were accompanied by jazz vocalist Emily Grace Jordan. We performed at Diner en Blanc – Cincinnati, Washington Park, Crescent Springs Music Festival in KY, Twin Lakes Retirement Community, Union Township

1993 – 2017
Anita Cocker Hunt is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Music in trumpet degrees from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She later returned to the College-Conservatory of Music to earn her Master of Music degree in Instrumental Wind Conducting studying with Eugene Migliaro Corporon. She has held positions as high school band and orchestra director in the Cleveland area, as private trumpet instructor at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, and was a member of the Cleveland Women’s Symphony Orchestra.
Anita returned to Cincinnati to serve as Divisional Music Director for the Salvation Army in Southwest Ohio and Northeast Kentucky before leaving in 1997 to go back to public education as the Pendleton County H.S. Band Director and then worked as a school representative for Buddy Roger’s Music. Anita recently returned to the Salvation Army as Director of Music for the Southwest Ohio and Northeast Kentucky Division.
Anita was the Cincinnati Brass Band’s primary conductor since its inception until her retirement in 2017, and presently serves on the Board of Directors and continues to play in the band. She is the former President of the North American Brass Band Association and still a current member of their board of directors, is a member of Women Band Directors International and the International Women’s Brass Conference. Additionally, Anita is the associate conductor of the Commonwealth Brass Band, an Ensemble in Residence at Indiana University Southeast. This includes responsibility as adjunct faculty member of Indiana University Southeast. In 2013, Anita received the North American Brass Band Association’s President’s Award for her service and leadership in both spheres of brass band activity, NABBA and The Salvation Army.
